DelayedDeletes «standard» for EMC Centera
The «standard» Edition of DelayedDeletes for EMC Centera offers customers with requirements for high availability and recoverability of their environment the ideal solution.
Delayed Replication between source and target system
DelayedDeletes is implemented to delay the replication of delete requests issued by archive applications. The EMC Centera replication is no longer configured to replicate delete requests but only new archived content.
The usage of DelayedDeletes for EMC Centera ensures that within the configured delay a copy of already deleted data still remains on the target system. This copy may be used for read-failover or to restore the data to the source system.
After the configured delay delete requests are replicated from the source to the target system. The space occupied by the copies no longer used is freed up and can be used to store new content.
Support for bi-directional replication environments
Typical replication environments implement bi-directional replication. Bi-directional replication simplifies failover and failback scenarios because it ensures that objects written in the failover situation are replicated to the source site once it becomes available again.
DelayedDeletes for EMC Centera supports bi-directionally replicated environments by first replicating from source to target and then replicating in the other direction from target to source system.
Support for profiles
Best practices and security considerations prevent non-authorized application from accessing the archive infrastructure. Informatio and DelayedDeletes not only support the implementation of profiles but strongly recommend it. The usage of profiles allows the replication of multiple applications with the same delay in an easy to implement and controllable way.
If required the connection to the source and the target array may use different profiles to only grant the minimum of necessary capabilities to each profile.
Configurable time of replication and frequency
DelayedDeletes can be configured to run at times with low network utilization like after the nightly backup runs have finished. The frequency at which DelayedDeletes for EMC Centera is invoked is configurable also.
The delay after which a delete request is replicated from source to target system is configurable for each replication pair. Using profiles it is easily possible to delay delete requests from all file archive applications that do not use retention periods by six months. Using another profile and delay delete requests from all compliance relevant applications may be replicated without delay eliminate data that is not required anymore.
Email-Home for monitoring purposes
With email-home notifications DelayedDeletes may be monitored efficiently. The SMTP-based mail component can authenticate even with a username and password combination.
Emails are sent for a number of events:
- IsAlive Status Email
- Delete Replication Start
- Delete Replication End
The different emails allow an efficient and proactive monitoring of DelayedDeletes for EMC Centera.
Graphical User Interface for recovery
In the next version of DelayedDeletes for EMC Centera a graphical user interface for data recovery will be implemented. The interface will allow restoring data from the target system back to the source system. Basis for the restore will be a list of references of the objects deleted on the source system that shall be restored from the target array.
Definition of two replication pairs with distinct delays
DelayedDeletes «standard» for EMC Centera allows the definition of two replication pairs with different replication delays.
Already the «standard» edition of DelayedDeletes allows replicating delete requests with two different delays.
